Financial infrastructure for last-mile credit in emerging markets

What they do:

Masunga builds the operational and financial infrastructure that makes alternative credit in emerging markets scalable and investable. Its operational platform standardises credit workflows, field operations and portfolio data for lenders and distributors across energy, mobility, agriculture and other sectors. Its financing platform connects these standardized portfolios to institutional capital through repeatable, ring-fenced receivables financing structures with ongoing monitoring.

Together, Masunga supports over 80 organizations across 35 countries and has facilitated more than $250 million in credit to over 2 million borrowers.

Why we Invested:

Africa's credit gap is an infrastructure problem. The continent's MSME finance gap alone is estimated at over $300 billion, and DFIs and climate investors are mandated to deploy capital into exactly these receivables, but have no reliable way to monitor or standardise them across dozens of small lenders and countries.

Masunga's team spent a decade building and running African lending operations before building the software layer to fix this, and it shows: real adoption across dozens of originators and tens of millions in receivables already processed
