Legendary Foods is a food technology company building scalable insect agriculture systems for protein, fat, and functional ingredient production. Using proprietary palm larva farming technology, the company transforms agricultural by-products into sustainable nutrition ingredients and consumer food products designed for African and emerging markets.
Why we Invested:
Legendary Foods is solving Africa's protein gap with an ingredient the continent already trusts. Palm larva is a culturally embraced, nutrient-dense food across West Africa. Legendary Foods produces it at a fraction of beef's land, water, and carbon footprint, while building both a consumer brand and a B2B ingredient pipeline already validated by partners like Givaudan and Fera Science. With over 60 local jobs created and a joint-venture model built for regional expansion, we saw a founding team combining deep insect-protein expertise with the operational grit to scale sustainable protein production across West and Central Africa.
The Founder:
Shobhita Soor is Co-Founder and CEO of Legendary Foods, bringing over a decade of experience scaling agri-food ventures across Africa. Before founding Legendary Foods, she co-founded Aspire Food Group, a global pioneer in insect protein with large-scale facilities across North America and Africa. A McGill-trained lawyer, she combines a strong foundation in food innovation and sustainability with a track record of securing international partnerships, including GIZ, FSD Africa, and Givaudan. Her focus is building climate-resilient, circular food systems that produce protein locally rather than importing it.
